Former Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton has praised Otto Addo, hailing him as an exceptional tactician and a coach of outstanding quality.
Addo has faced significant criticism in recent months following Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), ending the country’s 20-year streak of tournament appearances.
Despite that setback, the 50-year-old made history by guiding Ghana to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico next summer, becoming the first coach in the nation’s history to secure consecutive World Cup qualifications.
In an interview with 3Sports, Hughton expressed admiration for Addo’s coaching prowess and professionalism.
“Otto Addo is a very good coach. He has now taken the team to two World Cups, not something many coaches achieve,” said Hughton, who managed Newcastle United and Brighton.
He added a personal note of respect: “He is a good coach. As an individual, I like him a lot.”
Hughton, who led Ghana during the 2023 AFCON, previously worked alongside Addo as a technical advisor during his first tenure in charge of the national team.
The Black Stars will learn their 2026 World Cup group-stage opponents when the draw takes place on December 5.
