Laryea Kingston couple of days ago, was reported to have said Asamoah Gyan's captaincy at the Black Stars was snatched in 2019 and was given to Andre Ayewe. The ex- Ghana international upon hearing the news deemed it necessary to come out and rubbish those stories since it is fast spreading in the indigenous media.

The 43-year-old played an instrumental role in helping the Black Stars qualify for their first ever World Cup in 2006 but was mysteriously left out of the squad for the main tournament- a decision which most local journalists and football fans still can't fathom as of now.

In a recent interview to clarify what he said earlier, the ex- Scottish-based winger has urged everyone to disregard the news of him talking about Gyan-Andre's captaincy and added he was only speaking for himself where he expressed worried for not getting the opportunity to play at the World Cup.

"I was describing the trauma I went through during the days, I was mistreated for being denied the chance to play in the World Cup, not what has been attributed to me," Kingston stated.

"I never mentioned the captaincy issue as has been attributed to me.”

Laryea Kingston during his days, was an explosive wideman who played for the senior national team from the period of 2002-2010, where he made 41 appearances with six goals to his belt.

He is currently the assistant coach of the Ghana men U-17 national team (Black Starlets)
