Former Black Stars goalkeeper Fatau Dauda is highly optimistic that Ghanaian football will experience a resurgence, inspired by the recent achievements of Medeama and Dreams FC in CAF's inter-club competitions.
Both Medeama and Dreams FC have achieved a historic milestone by securing qualification to the group stages of the CAF Champions League and Confederations Cup, respectively. This marks the first time in their history that they have reached this stage.
Despite losing the second leg 2-1 to Horoya in Conakry, Medeama advanced with a 4-3 aggregate victory over both legs.
Dreams FC also clinched their qualification to the group stage in their debut campaign, defeating Sierra Leone's Kallon FC with a 3-2 aggregate scoreline in both legs.
Fatau Dauda, a former Black Stars shot-stopper, believes these successes indicate positive changes in Ghanaian football. He commended both Medeama and Dreams FC for their achievements and expressed confidence that Ghanaian clubs could reclaim their prominence in African football.
He remarked, “I will commend both Medeama and Dreams FC for group stage qualification in Champions League and in the Confederations Cup. for so many years, our clubs have struggled to make it to the group stage but this time, we’ve got Medeama and Dreams FC in the group stage”
Dauda emphasized that Ghana's football resurgence is possible if clubs continue to perform well on the continental stage, stating that "it's all about time," and he firmly believes that positive changes are underway.
“It is possible for us to win back our slots if clubs continue to perform like Medeama and Dreams FC in Africa. It’s all about time, trust me, our football will rise again because there’s being some changes” he said.
