Black Stars coach Chris Hughton has shown great appreciation for the local players who represented Ghana in the international friendly against Liberia on Tuesday.
Ghana hosted Liberia at the Accra Sports Stadium as part of their preparations for upcoming competitive fixtures in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
In the absence of Abdul Baba Rahman and Gideon Mensah, both of whom were sidelined due to injuries, defender Fatawu Hamidu of Medeama SC earned a starting position in the match under Chris Hughton's guidance.
During the second half, Jonathan Sowah, who had an outstanding season with Medeama SC, was added to reinforce the Black Stars' attack. Sowah made a significant impact, providing a sublime pass that led to Ghana's third goal, scored by Jordan Ayew.
Chris Hughton expressed his admiration for the efforts of these two players after Ghana secured a 3-1 victory at the end of the game.
“I’m really impressed by the performance of Fatawu Hamidu and Jonathan Sowah. Especially Sowah, he lifted the team when he came on,” stated the Black Stars head coach.
The performances of these two players are expected to create opportunities for additional local talents to be included in future squads.
Following this friendly, the Black Stars are scheduled to play two international friendlies against Mexico and the United States in the following month.
