Sudan head coach James Kwesi Appiah has firmly dismissed reports linking him with a return to lead the Black Stars team, insisting there is no truth in the speculation.

The coaching position became vacant after Otto Addo was sacked just days ago following defeats to Austria and Germany in last month's international friendlies.

Appiah, who is currently in charge of the Sudan national football team, addressed the rumours in an interview, making it clear that he has had no contact over taking up the vacant coaching role of the four-time African champions as he remains focused on his job.

His name had been mentioned among possible candidates for the hot seat given his previous experience with the Black Stars team. While Hervé Renard is now leading the pack to take up the position, other potential competitors like Tom Saintfiet and Eric Chelle are also reportedly under consideration by the Ghana FA.

However, the former Ghana coach has now ruled himself out of the race as the Ghana Football Association continues its search for a new manager ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be held in the USA, Canada and Mexico in June this year.

Kwesi Appiah remains the only indigenous coach to have qualified the Black Stars team to the FIFA World Cup in 2014 in Brazil.
