Takyi Arhin, a football administrator, has proposed honoring retired professional footballer Asamoah Gyan by erecting a statue or naming a sports facility after him.
Arhin believes that Asamoah Gyan has undeniably proven himself as Ghana's top striker and deserves recognition for his contributions to the nation.
In an interview with Rainbow Sports, Arhin suggested that honoring Gyan in this manner would serve as inspiration for young footballers to strive for excellence and bring pride to Ghana.
He emphasized that other countries have recognized their retiring footballers with similar tributes, and it is time for Ghana, specifically the Ghana Football Association and the State, to do the same.
Arhin expressed his belief that the state should collaborate with the GFA to honor Gyan appropriately, whether through a statue or by naming a facility after him.
He concluded by stating that such recognition would be well-deserved for Gyan, who holds the record as the National Team's leading scorer, and it would motivate aspiring footballers to give their best.
Arhin called upon others to support this proposal, hoping that the state would take action to honor Asamoah Gyan accordingly.
“It should be the state in collaboration with the GFA.” We must remember him. This is done when you travel somewhere else. As the National Team’s leading scorer, we must create a statue in his honour or name a facility after him.
"This would motivate aspiring footballers to give their all. Some of us need to rally behind that call so that the state will do something for Asamoah Gyan. He deserves it.”
