Red Star Belgrade winger Osman Bukari has extended a heartfelt apology to Ghanaians following the disappointing performance of the Black Stars at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d'Ivoire.
Ghana's inability to secure a single victory led to an early exit from the tournament, resulting in the dismissal of coach Chris Hughton. Bukari, who made two substitute appearances, particularly acknowledged his mistake in the 2-2 draw against Egypt, which marked a low point in the campaign.
Taking to Twitter, Bukari expressed his regret and apologized to the fans, acknowledging the embarrassment brought upon the nation. "It has taken me quite a number of days to gather the words to address you our dear fans, because of the embarrassment we brought on the nation and the fact that we let you down and our inability to advance to the next stage has hit heavily on me, for I contributed a part in it," he wrote.
Despite the setback, Bukari assured fans that the team would learn from their mistakes and return stronger. "I would like to render an unqualified apology for the mistakes and assure you that we will come back better and stronger for team and country. I hope and ask that you forgive us. We live to fight someday. Thank y’all for the encouragement, love and support!!"
Looking ahead, Bukari shifts his focus to club football, but he aspires to make a return to the national team during the March international window, potentially featuring in a friendly match against world champions Argentina.
