President John Dramani Mahama has confirmed that the Ghanaian government will not use public funds to transport supporters to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, citing high costs and guidance from the Dzamepe Report.

Addressing guests at the Ghana World Cup fundraising campaign at the Kempinski Hotel on Friday, Mahama highlighted the prohibitive expense of flying even a small contingent of fans.

"In line with the Dzamepe Report, the government has no plans to allocate public funds to fly supporters to the World Cup," Mahama stated.

"The logistical support for just 200 fans—covering travel and accommodation—is staggering, with estimated costs close to $2 million," he added.

The president emphasized that while the passion and support of Ghanaian fans are invaluable, public resources must prioritize urgent national needs such as job creation and development projects.

"We all want to see our fans in the stands, but we must be responsible with public resources," Mahama said.

As a result, fans wishing to attend the tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico will need to explore private sponsorships or fundraising initiatives to cover expenses.

Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama, kicking off their campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto.

The fundraising drive, supported by corporate entities and individual donors, aims to ease financial pressures on the Ghana Football Association ahead of the World Cup.
