Former Ghana international, Samuel Osei Kuffour, emphasizes the need for meticulous planning as Ghana eyes victory in the 2025 or 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after enduring a 41-year drought in securing the coveted title.

Ghana, a four-time AFCON winner, faces the upcoming 2023 tournament in Ivory Coast with heightened expectations, but Kuffour stresses the importance of strategic planning over immediate success.

Noting the difference between preparation and planning, he highlights the youthful composition of the recent World Cup squad, urging a forward-thinking approach.

“There is a difference between preparation and planning we are always prepared but we don't plan the team we took to the World Cup last year if you look at the team 17 players were under 25," he told Peace FM.

"So why are we forcing ourselves that we are going to Ivory Coast to win the cup?

"There is a difference between preparation and planning. We have to think 2025 or 2027 because by that time, how old will the players be? We need planning, not just preparation," Kuffour asserts, echoing the call for a long-term vision for Ghana's football success.

As the Black Stars prepare for the AFCON, housed in Group B with Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique, Kuffour's insights underscore the significance of strategic foresight for sustainable triumph in future tournaments.

The 34th edition of AFCON is slated to kick off from January 13 to February 11.
