Black Stars team manager Ameenu Shadow has broken his silence following Ghana's disappointing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations campaign in Ivory Coast, where they exited at the group stage without a single victory.
Ghana, a West African football powerhouse, drew two games and suffered a defeat in Group B, finishing third behind Cape Verde and Egypt. This marks the second consecutive AFCON where the team has failed to progress beyond the group stage.
Expressing his thoughts on the performance, Shadow remarked, "I’ve known from long that the AFCON is perhaps the toughest competition to win and thus have always been measured in my expectations of the @GhanaBlackstars going into this tournament. However, this group was good enough to at least progress from the group stage."
Witnessing the efforts of everyone involved and falling short of achieving the minimum target, Shadow acknowledged the difficulty in accepting the massive disappointment inflicted on fellow countrymen. He stated, "Sorry alone will never be enough. We must together resolve to take ALL the necessary steps to reverse this unfortunate trend."
Quoting the proverb 'It takes a village,' Shadow called for collective action, hoping that in these moments, the team can resurrect the requisite behavior needed to navigate towards the desired destination. He concluded, "Our time will surely come, maybe sooner if we manage to find the right formula to crack what seems an elusive puzzle."
