Minister of Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams says he is confident that Ghana will deliver “something great” at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after sealing qualification for the tournament, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The Black Stars will be making their fifth World Cup appearance, having previously featured in 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2022.

Speaking at an event hosted by Chinese automobile manufacturer Great Wall Motors (GWM), the Sports Minister expressed optimism about Ghana’s preparations and the lessons gained from the team’s recent Asia tour.

“We did not go there [to Japan and South Korea] only to win; we went there to learn,” Kofi Adams said. “We have learnt something, and we are more than prepared for next year’s Mundial. We will come back with something great.”

His comments come despite Ghana’s recent results in the Kirin Challenge Cup, where the Black Stars suffered a 2-0 defeat to Japan and a 1-0 loss to South Korea earlier this month.

In a related announcement, Minister of Finance Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson revealed during his National Budget Statement that ₵150 million has been allocated to support the Black Stars’ World Cup preparations and overall campaign.

Ghana’s best-ever World Cup performance came in 2010, when the team reached the quarterfinals, narrowly missing out on a historic semifinal spot. However, the Black Stars have not advanced past the group stage in their last two appearances.
