Referees Manager Alex Kotey has revealed that Ghana Premier League referees are still owed salaries for several matchweeks, despite efforts to address the long-standing issue of delayed payments.
Speaking to Asempa FM, Kotey admitted that the challenge remains persistent but assured that steps are being taken to clear the arrears.
“The issue of non-payment is something we are addressing,” he said. “Even I have gone for CAF games and they have not paid me, but that is not to say the money will not come. It will be paid.”
He clarified that payments for the opening rounds of the season have already been sorted out.
“Weeks one to four have been paid. I have finished processing that and submitted it to the accounts department,” Kotey confirmed.
According to him, the Ghana Football Association is committed to reducing outstanding arrears this season and ensuring more timely payments to match officials.
“This year, we are making sure we do not owe referees too much,” he added.
Despite the assurances, the remaining unpaid balances continue to worry referees nationwide, who are still fulfilling their match duties under tight schedules while awaiting their salaries.
