Former Ghana midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has expressed his disappointment, stating that the Black Stars lacked the quality needed to secure qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Ghana’s hopes were dashed after a 1-1 draw with Angola at the Estádio 11 de Novembro in Luanda on Friday. The team needed a win to stay in contention after Niger’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Sudan.

Despite Jordan Ayew’s brilliant first-half free-kick giving Ghana the lead, Zini’s second-half header leveled the game, effectively ending the Black Stars’ chances.

Reflecting on the team’s performance, Agyemang-Badu criticized the state of the national side.
“Our team lacked the quality to qualify for the AFCON,” he told Akoma FM. “Our problems started long ago, and the funny aspect is that we celebrate mediocrity and deceive ourselves into thinking the team is okay after winning a game. I nearly cried yesterday.”

Ghana currently sits on three points after five games and will conclude their qualification campaign on Monday with a home fixture against Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 16:00 GMT.
