The Head of Communications at the British High Commission, Ryan Wilson, has backed the inclusion of players who were not part of Ghana’s World Cup qualification campaign, as debate continues over the possible call-up of dual-national players ahead of the 2026 tournament.

The discussion has focused on England-based forwards Callum Hudson-Odoi and Eddie Nketiah, both of whom have represented England at senior level but remain eligible to switch allegiance to Ghana under FIFA regulations.

While some observers argue that only players involved from the start of the qualifiers should be considered, Wilson believes widening the selection pool would benefit the Black Stars.

“Their addition can only make the team stronger; it brings competition and real depth,” Wilson said. “With the Premier League’s demands and the long road to the World Cup, injuries can happen. If Semenyo or Kudus are unavailable, options are needed.”

Wilson pointed to the physical and mental demands of top-level football, stressing that squad depth will be crucial over a long and demanding World Cup campaign.

The final decision will be made by head coach Otto Addo, who is backed by the Ghana Football Association. Any potential call-up will depend on how well the players are performing and how ready they are at the time of selection.
