Black Stars forward Brandon Thomas-Asante has voiced his disappointment after Ghana’s exit from the 2025 Unity Cup following a 2-1 semifinal defeat to Nigeria on Wednesday night at the Gtech Community Stadium in London.
The Coventry City striker came off the bench to score Ghana’s only goal, halving Nigeria’s lead after earlier goals from Cyriel Dessers and a Razak Simpson own goal had put the Super Eagles in control. Despite a spirited second-half performance, the Black Stars were unable to complete the comeback and will now contest the third-place playoff.
Speaking after the match, Thomas-Asante revealed his personal disappointment, particularly because of his Jamaican heritage.
"To be fair, on a personal note, I’m a little bit frustrated because I’m Jamaican as well, so I would have liked to do that one [play against Jamaica in the final]," he said.
Looking ahead to the third-place match, Thomas-Asante remained focused on finishing strong.
"In terms of playing against Trinidad and Tobago, you know, we go out there, the same attitude as always — try and win the game and put things right, which is what we want to do," he added.
Ghana will now face Trinidad and Tobago in the third-place match scheduled for Saturday, May 31, with kickoff at 15:00 GMT.
