Minister of Sports and Recreation designate, Kofi Adams, has revealed that discussions are ongoing to introduce financial support for players in Ghana’s Premier League to help curb the growing player exodus.

Low wages have long been a major challenge in the league, contributing significantly to the departure of top talents and the overall decline in quality.

Adams emphasized that keeping Ghana’s best players in the local league is a priority, and providing financial stipends is being considered as a possible solution.

“We talked about giving them allowances so we can retain a number of our players,” Adams told the Appointments Committee of Parliament.

“Some of them leave the shores of this country to play in war-torn countries just because their earnings are so low. The whole idea is to retain players by giving them stipends. We think it will go a long way to improve the league.”
