Head coach of the Black Stars, Otto Addo, revealed that victory was the goal as they approached the crucial match against Mali at the Stade du 26 Mars in Bamako.

Ghana clinched a dramatic 2-1 win over Mali on Match-day 3 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Despite trailing after Kamory Doumbia's 45th-minute goal, Ernest Nuamah leveled the score with a powerful header in the 58th minute.

The game was decided in stoppage time when Jordan Ayew, assisted by fellow substitute Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, netted the winning goal in the 94th minute.

"We had a win in our minds, but I wanted to feel the game first. It was difficult to play a fully attacking game because Mali is a strong team and the weather here is very hot. So, I had to see how the game unfolded before deciding whether to add more offensive or defensive players. In the end, we brought on more offensive players, and they scored for us," Addo explained to the press after the match.

The team arrived at the Nana Agyemang Prempeh I International Airport in Kumasi at 1:15 am via ASKY Airlines. Preparations will now continue for their next match against the Central African Republic, scheduled for Monday, June 10, 2024.
