Alexander Djiku- arguably Ghana's best defender at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, has expressed disappointment in their early exit from the competition but has thanked Ghanaians for their inflicting support right from day one.
The bulky defender individually, was very impressive and brilliant- having given five-star performances which eventually saw him win the MOTM accolade in the opening game against Cape Verde.
Ghana in their final group game, needed a win to qualify but sadly gave away a two goal-lead and conceded two at the death of the game to play out a 2-2 stalemate with Mozambique in their final group game.
Jordan Ayew netted a brace against the Mambas all from spot-kicks but his goals were cancelled out subsequently courtesy two late goals from Geny Cipriano and Renildo Mandava.
The draw means the four-time champions ended the campaign with just points from a defeat and two draws and finished third in Group B.
Reacting to Ghana's painful eviction, the ex- Strasbourg captain has apologized and expressed a profound gratitude at the same time to the supporters and hopes to bounce back stronger.
Words will certainly not be enough to erase the disillusionment.

We are disappointed and very sorry for our Ghanaian people that we have failed at this stage of the competition, but if you only knew how grateful we are to have been supported by you, our Ghanaian fans.pic.twitter.com/HJsAg4U4Jp
The Black Stars players will return to their respective clubs and will regroup again to take Mali on June 5, in their third game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Alexander Djiku will now return to his club Fenerbahce to continue with the rest of the 2023/24 football season.
