Asante Kotoko survived a huge late scare to continue their excellent start to the season in the Ghana Premier League with a 1-0 victory over Accra Lions at the Len Clay Stadium.

After Albert Amoah needed a matter of 47 minutes to break the deadlock, laying any doubts to rest as Kum-Apem secure the victory.

During a weekend of dramatic thunderstorms across Ghana, lightning appropriately struck ones at Obuasi, where the action of the match was observed.

Indeed, Amoah left the home crowd dumbfounded after tapping-in Saaka’s out-swinging cross to put the Porcupines in the lead. But the former Accra Great Olympics forward had inadvertently poked the Ibrahim Tango’s ‘bald head’.

The hosts could and probably should have put the game to bed in the 60th minute to rub salt into the wounds of Lions.

Fredrick Asare then made a couple of crucial saves to preserve Kotoko’s' slender lead, going ahead to produce a delicate dink to wrap up a much-needed win for Kotoko.

Kotoko’s victory temporarily lifts them into the top of the table in 1st place, leapfrogging Medeama in the process, as the Yellow and Mauves slip to 3rd.
