Basake Holy Stars have potentially driven another nail into Jimmy Cobblah’s Karela United coffin thanks to a 1-0 win over the abject Pride and Passion at Crosby Awuah Memorial Park in the Ghana Premier League.
The home team found the net at the 80th minute mark, where Holy Stars rubbed salt into the wounds for the disenchanted away supporters, many of whom headed for the exits well before full time.
The cacophony of boos told the story as the half-time whistle blew, as both side’s trudged into the changing rooms with a blank slate to their names, but it could and almost certainly should have been avoided.
Abdulai Gazale team needed just 80 minutes to make their mark on their own turf, as Prince Opoku produced a Usain Bolt-esque sprint before latching home the only goal of the match.
In terms of a response from the Pride and Passion, there were four goal attempts. Cobblah’s men most times lost the ball at will, struggled to string a few passes together and were thankful that Holy Stars were being their own worst enemies in the final third.
There was an uphill struggle for the hosts as it became all the more difficult when Holy Stars took the walk of shame as one of their players was shown a red card for a high tackle, although it was not exactly a crunching challenge, albeit with studs up.
The 1-0 scoreline flattered Karela in the dying embers, but Holy Stars were just unlucky as they failed to belatedly double their lead.
Cries of "Cobblah you’re getting sacked in some section of the crowd!" bellowed out from the shattered away end. Holy Stars are currently 12th with 7 points, while Karela lurks in 14th position with 5 points.
