Heart of Lions returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion as they secured a commanding 3–0 victory over Basake Holy Stars in their 2025/26 Ghana Premier League matchweek seven encounter at the Kpando Stadium on Friday afternoon.

The Dzie Woa Nu, who entered the game looking to keep pace with the league’s early frontrunners, delivered an electrifying performance, taking control of the match from the opening whistle and never allowing the visitors to settle.

Heart of Lions’ pressure paid off just before the break when striker Kwadwo Obeng Junior broke the deadlock in the 37th minute, slotting home after a well-worked attacking move carved open the Basake Holy Stars defence.

Seven minutes later, the Dzie Woa Nu doubled their lead. Forward Michael Ephson found space inside the box and finished neatly in the 44th minute, making the home fans go Gaga as the team headed into the break with a 2–0 cushion.

The moment of the match, however, arrived in the second half as midfielder Anthony Owusu produced an extraordinary strike to seal the victory, scoring from inside his own half to make it 3–0. After Basake Holy Stars goalkeeper Prince Asempah rushed off his line to clear a loose ball, Owusu reacted quickest and unleashed a precise long-range effort that sailed into the unguarded net, a goal that will undoubtedly be a contender for goal of the season.

The hosts, Heart of Lions, controlled proceedings throughout, finishing with 56% possession, 13 total attempts, including 9 on target, along with 5 corners and 2 yellow cards issued.

Basake Holy Stars on the other hand, offered effort but struggled to create meaningful chances, recording 44% possession, 7 shots (4 on target), no corners and 1 booking.

The result further strengthens Heart of Lions’ standing as they have now ployed to the top of the table with 14 points, while Basake Holy Stars remain rooted at the bottom (18th on 2 points) and searching for their first league win of the season.
