Nations FC returned to winning ways in dramatic fashion on Friday afternoon, beating league leaders Medeama SC 2–1 in matchweek 21 of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex in Abrankese.

Centre-back Razak Simpson was the unlikely hero for the Abrankese Royals, scoring both goals to hand his side all three points and end Medeama’s hopes of extending their lead at the top.

Nations FC started the game with real purpose, enjoying more of the ball and pressing high as they looked determined to bounce back from recent setbacks.

However, it was Medeama who struck first. In the 8th minute, dangerous forward Kingsley Braye showed his sharp instincts inside the box to give the Yellow and Mauves an early lead against the run of play.

The goal did not knock the hosts off course. Nations FC responded positively and continued to push forward, and their pressure paid off in the 19th minute when Razak Simpson rose to the occasion, firing home the equaliser to level the scores.

Medeama had chances to regain the lead before the break, with Braye, Salim Adams and Abdul Salam getting into good positions, but the trio failed to convert several clear opportunities, leaving the visiting fans frustrated.

Just before half-time, Nations FC were handed a big moment. Simpson stepped up calmly and converted a 43rd-minute penalty, completing his brace and turning the game on its head. It marked the defender’s first goals of the season.

In the second half, Medeama pushed hard for an equaliser and created several openings, but their finishing let them down again, missing numerous shots on target as Nations FC defended bravely.

Despite late pressure, the hosts held firm to seal a famous 2–1 home victory, recording their seventh win of the campaign.

Medeama SC, coached by Ibrahim Tanko, remain top of the table with 43 points, having won 12 games, drawn seven and lost two, but their lead was checked by a spirited Nations FC performance.

For Frimpong Manso’s Nations FC, the win lifts them to eighth place with 27 points after 21 matches, with a record of seven wins, six draws and eight defeats, and renewed belief heading into the next round of matches.
