Asante Kotoko have announced the signing promising Sudanese defender Esmat Abdulhamid Mohamed from Al Hilal on a season-long loan with an option to buy.

The 21-year-old left-back, highly regarded in Sudanese football circles penned his deal with the Porcupines after passing a mandatory medical on Saturday.

Abdulhamid's move to Kotoko comes with a glowing recommendation from Sudan's national coach and Kotoko's technical director, Kwesi Appiah.

Rising through the ranks at Al Hilal Omdurman, Abdulhamid gained valuable experience at Al Falah SC during the 2022/23 season, featuring prominently in over 20 matches.

The young defender has also earned a call-up to Sudan's senior national team, and his arrival at Kotoko is seen as a coup for the Ghanaian club.

Abdulhamid's signing is part of Kotoko's rebuilding effort following the release of 21 players, including Kalo Ouattara, Nicholas Osei Bonsu, and Isaac Oppong, among others.

The recent roster overhaul was a response to Kotoko's disappointing sixth-place finish in the Ghana Premier League, where they fell short of claiming the 2023/24 title and ended the season without silverware.

With Abdulhamid's arrival, Kotoko aims to regain competitiveness in the league and build a stronger squad for the upcoming season.
