In a pre-match press conference ahead of Arsenal's clash with Southampton, head coach Mikel Arteta addressed the ongoing speculation surrounding Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey’s future at the club.
Rumors of a potential departure have swirled since last season, but Arteta was quick to shut down any suggestions that Partey is playing to secure a new contract. He clarified that Partey’s presence in the squad is driven purely by his importance to the team.
“We play him to find our best version and to be the most competitive team we can be. Our goal is to win every single game, and Thomas is key to that," Arteta affirmed.
Partey, who has already made six Premier League appearances this season and scored once, returned from his post-holiday break in top physical condition, impressing the coaching staff with his fitness and dedication. Arteta praised him as a “massive player” whose influence on the pitch is critical to Arsenal’s ambitions.
With Arsenal set to face Southampton on Saturday afternoon, Partey is expected to play a pivotal role in the Gunners' midfield as they push for victory.
