President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku, has called on the Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohunu, to help guarantee justice in the case of late Asante Kotoko supporter Francis Yaw Frimpong, widely known as Nana Pooley.
The appeal was made during a high-level meeting between GFA officials and the Ghana Police Service at the Police Headquarters in Accra. Discussions focused on improving safety at match venues and strengthening accountability within Ghanaian football.
Nana Pooley tragically lost his life during a Ghana Premier League fixture in early 2025 — an incident that sent shockwaves through the football fraternity and reignited concerns about fan security at stadiums. More than a year on, the matter is still before the courts.
Okraku emphasized the need for closure, stating that justice for the deceased and his family would help restore trust in football governance and security structures. He appealed to the Police to remain committed to the judicial process to ensure the case is handled transparently and without unnecessary delay.
He further noted that safeguarding lives at football matches is a collective duty shared by the FA and law enforcement agencies.
In response, the IGP reaffirmed the Police Service’s dedication to maintaining order at football events and supporting due process in all matters concerning safety within the sport.
