The former TP Mazembe man has launched a stinging potshot at the Capital-based club as he feels power play among the club's hierarchy forced him out of the side during his stay with them in the Ghanaian top-flight
Ghana international midfielder Gladson Awako has labelled Ghanaian giants Accra Hearts of Oak as a ''political club'', with management members told they were once alarmed by his influence among his team-mates given the confidence reposed in him by his former manager Slavko Matic.
The 33-year-old experienced attacking midfielder, who joined the Rainbow club in 2021, saw his spell with the one-time continental club masters come to a close in 2023 much to the dismay of many football fans and connoisseurs following his splendid showings throughout his outing in the Ghanaian elite division contest.
However, the former Phoenix Rising FC midfielder has opened up on his shock exit from the Phobians as he feels such move was orchestrated by some management members of the club who were against his leadership capabilities at some point in time.
Awako, currently plying his trade with Accra Great Olympics in the Division One League, revealed the bad blood that existed between both parties before his premature departure, telling Asempa FM: '' Hearts of Oak and Olympics are two different clubs. One of the clubs is political and the other is not. It got to a time they thought I was becoming too powerful so they had to get rid of me but there was no problem with me.''
He added: ''The leadership roles I got from the coach [Slavko Matic] gave me power and they felt if they should allow me, it wouldn't help most of them so they got rid of me.''
The former Berekum Chelsea talisman won the Ghana Premier League title and two FA Cups with Hearts of Oak during his two-year spells.
