Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has been crowned the Best Goalkeeper in the Ghana Premier League for May/June by the Ex-National Goalkeepers Union (NEGO), after a string of commanding performances that helped the Phobians finish the season in 4th position.
The 32-year-old, who kept three clean sheets in four games, was a brick wall in goal during the closing stages of the 2024/25 campaign — conceding just one goal across the month while steering Hearts to record four wins and a draw in their last five games to claim 13 points, from a potential 15.
Asare’s heroics came at a crucial time for the club, stabilising the defence and delivering match-winning saves. His standout performance against Samartex where he pulled off a series of jaw-dropping stops which proved key in Hearts securing maximum points.
He beat stiff competition from Lawrence Osei (Heart of Lions) and Rabin Ousmane Sanon (Nations FC) to clinch the monthly honour.
As a reward for his achievement, Asare will be presented with a pair of goalkeeper gloves, a branded towel, water bottle, and a T-shirt courtesy of NEGO.
The former Accra Great Olympics shot-stopper has also committed his future to Hearts of Oak by extending his contract and is poised to play a key role in the upcoming season as the Phobians look to mount a serious challenge for the title.
