Hohoe United captain, Safianu Usman has expressed regret towards his penalty miss against Heart of Lions in the regional derby and has appealed to their supporters for forgiveness and hopes to bounce back stronger.
The ‘Muje Gabah’ lads held the Giant Killers in the first ever Volta derby in the Ghana Premier League in a very thrilling encounter at the Hohoe Stadium last Friday to kickstart match-day 17.
Hohoe United at certain point in the game had a big opportunity to go in front after Lawson Bekui weaved his way through enemy territory but was brought down in the box by Heart of Lions captain Ebenezer Abban for a penalty.
Captain Safian Usman took responsibility but unfortunately skied off the kick in a very awful fashion in the 65th minute.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page, the mercurial midfielder admitted to his mistakes agreeing his miss is the reason they failed to claim all three points and has seeked forgiveness from the entire Hohoe United fraternity.
"Hey everyone, I wanted to take a moment to apologize for missing that crucial penalty. I know how much it hurt, and I'm truly sorry for the disappointment I caused. I can only imagine how the fans must feel, and I want them to know that I'm devastated for not being able to come through when it mattered most.
“To my teammates, I'm sorry for putting the burden on you. I know we worked so hard to get to that point, and I wish I could have done more to help us win. I'll be living with this moment for a long time, but I want to assure you that I'll be working even harder to come back stronger and make it right.
“Let's keep moving forward, and let's keep pushing ourselves to be the best we can be. We'll get 'em next time. Thank you”
Hohoe United after the draw have moved out of the relegation zone as they currently sit in 14th place with 18 points to end first phase of the season. They will host Hearts of Oak next.
