Former Asante Kotoko SC head coach Abdul Karim Zito has addressed speculation over a possible return to the Kumasi-based club, affirming that his loyalty to the Porcupine Warriors remains steadfast despite stepping down earlier this year.

Speaking to Akoma 87.9 FM, Zito admitted uncertainty about whether he will ever return as Kotoko’s head coach but emphasized that his bond with the club is permanent.

“I don’t know. I honestly don’t know. But one thing is certain—I am still Kotoko, and I will continue to be Kotoko for the rest of my life. Go and look at my car; you’ll see the flag there,” Zito said.

When asked about the possibility of a future return, he added:

“Oh, it might be possible. One day, I could come back. But for now, this chapter is closed. Next time, we’ll see.”

Zito’s history with Kotoko spans several years, serving in multiple coaching capacities and most recently leading the team as head coach until his resignation on February 9, 2026. Known for nurturing young talent and instilling tactical discipline, Zito earned widespread respect for his contributions to Ghanaian football.

During his eight-month tenure, Kotoko captured four trophies and remained competitive in domestic competitions, despite a disappointing exit in the MTN FA Cup Round of 16 at the hands of Aduana Stars. At the time of his departure, Kotoko sat fifth in the Ghana Premier League after a minor dip in form.

Following his resignation, Zito assumed the role of technical director at FC AshGold, continuing his work in developing teams and advancing Ghanaian football.

While he is focused on his current responsibilities, Zito’s remarks suggest the door at Kotoko may remain open for the veteran coach in the future, keeping fans hopeful of a potential reunion with the Porcupine Warriors.
