Former Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim has spoken about the disappointment of losing his number one role to Frederick Asare at the club.

The Ghana youth international has parted ways with the Ghanaian giants following the expiration of his contract, with 18 goalkeepers being shown the exit door.

Danlad, who made the Black Stars for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, lost his position to Frederick Asare in the just-concluded campaign, making only 13 appearances for the Kumasi-based club. He revealed that he didn't see it coming and accepted it as part of life.

"I remember I started losing that position when I came from the CHAN tournament. I didn't see it coming, truly," he told 3 Sports.

"But that is life. Normally, things will happen without your notice. It is part of the job.”

“Everybody came to Asante Kotoko to work. We all came to make Asante Kotoko greater so if my colleague will play and we will win why not. For me it was normal and it is part of life”

"All my national teams that I have played. Normally I meet a lot of goalkeepers but before the start of the tournament I will be number."

He is currently a free agent and there are reports that Hearts of Oak are interested in signing the shot-stopper.

Danlad joined Asante Kotoko in the 2016-17 season and made significant contributions to the team. He has represented Ghana at various youth levels, including the U-17, U-20, and U-23 teams and the Black Stars proper.

The former Ghana Premier League winner has won several individual awards, including the Golden Glove at both the WAFU Zone B U-20 Tournament in 2020 and the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in 2021, as well as the Ghana Football Awards Goalkeeper of the Year in 2021.
