Accra Lions head coach Rainer Kraft has issued a verbal heartfelt apology to the club's supporters following their relegation from the Ghana Premier League at the end of the 2024/25 season.
The German tactician, who took charge of the Lions with high hopes of cementing their top-flight status, expressed his deep disappointment after the club failed to beat the drop on the final day of the campaign.
“So it's a little bit disappointing,” Kraft said in a post-match interview. “Of course. But it doesn’t harm, in the end, what we are doing. And one last thing I want to say: I want to thank all the fans we have in Accra and beyond for always supporting us.”
Accra Lions struggled with consistency throughout the season, and despite flashes of promise from their youthful squad, they couldn’t gather enough points to survive the fiercely competitive relegation battle. A decisive loss to crowned champions—Bibiani Gold Stars on the final day confirmed their drop to the Division One League.
Kraft admitted that tactical errors and lapses in concentration cost the team crucial points. He also acknowledged the weight of expectation from the fans, who had hoped for at least mid-table stability.
“This is a difficult moment for everyone involved — the players, the staff, and especially the fans,” he added. “So really, in such a good manner, thank you very much, fans. And I'm sorry for that relegation.”
With relegation now confirmed, the club’s future direction remains uncertain, and questions linger about Kraft’s tenure moving forward. However, insiders confirmed to Kickgh.com's Pascal Amoah that the coach remains committed to helping the club bounce back if given the opportunity.
