Karela United head coach Nurudeen Amadu has confirmed that his side have now turned their full focus to the Ghana Premier League following their heartbreaking exit from the MTN FA Cup earlier this week.
The Tamale-based outfit saw their cup journey come to an agonising end after a 14–13 penalty shootout defeat to Tamale City, following a goalless draw in regulation time. The loss officially ended Karela’s hopes of silverware in the competition this season.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s Matchday 18 encounter against Aduana FC at the Nana Agyeman Badu I Park, Amadu admitted the congested fixture schedule has taken a toll on his squad but stressed that league consistency is now the club’s top priority.
“We were eliminated from the FA Cup, so our focus now is on the league. It was a very, very difficult situation because there is no break and you have to continue,” Amadu said.
The Karela boss also highlighted the challenge of limited preparation time due to travel and back-to-back fixtures.
“We returned on Tuesday, played on Wednesday, and now today and tomorrow we have to wrap up preparations. It’s not going to be much,” he added.
Despite the disappointment in the FA Cup, Karela United head into the weekend encouraged by their league form. The Tamale-based side have lost just one of their last seven Ghana Premier League matches, a run that has strengthened belief as they look to build momentum in the second round of the season.
With cup distractions now behind them, Amadu and his players will be hoping to channel their focus into securing a positive result in Dormaa as they aim to climb further up the league table.
