Karela United head coach Nurudeen Amadu has shed light on the club’s restrained approach to the ongoing January transfer window, citing market difficulties and the need for immediate quality as key reasons behind limited recruitment activity.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s Ghana Premier League clash against Aduana FC, Amadu acknowledged the club’s intention to strengthen but admitted that circumstances have made it difficult to secure the right profiles.
“So before the end of the registration period, we should have registered at least a few players,” Amadu said. “But it’s always very difficult because the players you are looking at, you’re not even sure whether they can come.”
The Karela boss was emphatic that any new signing must represent a clear upgrade on existing options rather than a mere addition to numbers.
“You are looking for players who will be better than what you already have,” he explained. “Some are good, but they are not better than what we have.”
Amadu also pointed to the increasingly competitive nature of the local transfer market, revealing that clubs are reluctant to part ways with their standout performers unless strong relationships exist.
“Any good player, even in the lower teams, they won’t give him to you unless there is a good relationship,” he added.
Despite the recruitment challenges, Karela United have shown resilience on the pitch. The Tamale-based side have lost just one of their last seven league matches, a run Amadu believes has been aided by squad stability and improved cohesion.
As they prepare for a demanding away trip to Dormaa to face Aduana FC, Karela will once again rely on organisation and collective effort rather than reinforcements, with Amadu confident his current group can continue to compete strongly in the second half of the season.
