Asante Kotoko legend Wilberforce Mfum has expressed disappointment with the team's recent string of poor performances in the ongoing 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season.
The Porcupine Warriors have struggled to find consistency, managing just one win in their last six matches, placing both players and the coach under significant scrutiny from fans and pundits alike.
Speaking to Kumasi-based Akoma FM, Mfum urged the players to demonstrate greater commitment and dedication to the club's cause, emphasizing the importance of playing with passion and determination.
"The only advice I have for the players is that before wearing Kotoko's jersey, they must be dedicated and have the team at heart, always play for the team with full commitment, and not with a lazy attitude," he said.
With Kotoko currently occupying the 9th position on the league table with 32 points from 23 games, Mfum suggested that fans should hold players accountable for their lackluster performances by expressing their dissatisfaction more assertively.
“I think the players have never been beaten before, they should have been beaten by the fans after losing streak so they understand their worth”
Questioning the disparity between players' financial rewards and their on-field contributions, Mfum challenged the team to deliver improved performances in upcoming fixtures.
"How can you be bought with a large sum of money and then given such a poor performance?," he quizzed.
As Asante Kotoko prepares to face Bechem United in their next fixture at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park, Mfum's call for enhanced player dedication underscores the high expectations placed upon the historic club and its players to uphold its legacy of excellence.
