Right-back Michael Ampadu will part ways with Accra Hearts of Oak at the end of the 2024/25 season, after the club confirmed he is not in their plans for the upcoming 2025/26 campaign.

The 26-year-old defender is expected to leave as a free agent following the expiration of his contract in July 2025, drawing the curtain on his stint with the Phobians just over a year after joining.

Sources close to the club reveal that Ampadu’s departure stems largely from a strained relationship with head coach Aboubakar Ouattara, which deteriorated during the second half of the season. The two reportedly clashed over tactical roles and inconsistent playing time, which ultimately led to the player falling down the pecking order.

Ampadu began the season as Hearts’ first-choice right-back, but his role diminished following the January arrival of new defensive recruits. His last start came on Matchday 26, and he has since been used sparingly—either coming on as a late substitute or being left out of the squad entirely.

Despite these challenges, the former Liberty Professionals defender has made 21 appearances this season, contributing 2 assists and averaging 2.7 tackles, 1.8 interceptions, and 1.3 key passes per game—numbers that reflect a solid, if turbulent, campaign.

He was recently reintegrated into the team but the club’s technical leadership has decided not to offer a renewal, as part of a broader squad overhaul led by Ouattara and endorsed by the Hearts board. The club is aiming to rebuild after a disappointing season that saw them miss out on a top-four finish.

Ampadu is now expected to consider offers from both local Ghana Premier League clubs and lower-tier European sides, with interest reportedly growing ahead of the transfer window.
