Interim Asante Kotoko coach Prince Yaw Owusu failed to show up for training on the morning of Thursday, April 16, amid reports of safety concerns following threats from sections of supporters.
According to reports, Owusu fears for his life after coming under intense pressure from some fans who have called for his resignation in the wake of the club’s poor run of form.
The Porcupine Warriors have struggled since he took charge on an interim basis following the sacking of Karim Zito, with Owusu overseeing eight matches, recording two wins, two draws and four defeats, including a heavy 4-0 loss to Medeama SC last week in Tarkwa.
With the head coach absent, Thursday’s training session was handled by assistant and youth team coach Mohammed Hamza Obeng, who stepped in to supervise the players.
Prince Owusu is reported to have vacated his residence having packed out already with all attempts by management to reach him unsuccessful
The situation highlights growing unrest among Kotoko supporters, who have increasingly voiced their frustrations and urged the club’s management to appoint a substantive head coach to stabilize the team.
