The exciting West Ham United attacker has revealed he has been an ardent fan of Ghanaian powerhouse Hearts of Oak since childhood.
Black Stars attacking midfielder Mohammed Kudus has reminisced about his support for the one-time CAF Champions League title holders while growing up in Ghana's capital, Accra.
Accra Hearts of Oak is the oldest existing club in West Africa and has achieved several laurels domestically and internationally. The capital-based club has clinched 21 Ghana Premier League titles and three continental trophies—the CAF Champions League, CAF Confederation Cup, and CAF Super Cup—and was ranked among the top clubs in Africa in the twenty-first century.
The 23-year-old fondly recalled the electrifying atmosphere surrounding Hearts of Oak matches, describing it as "crazy" and highlighting the deep connection he felt with the team due to its roots in his hometown.
“I was supporting a team in Ghana called Hearts [of Oak], a team in the Ghana league. [The atmosphere] was crazy. It is in the city I grew up in, in Accra, the capital,” Kudus Mohammed told SkySports.
Hearts of Oak have now declined in Ghana football despite their incredible achievements and are currently occupying 11th place on the 2023–24 Ghana Premier League table. The club ended its eleven-year trophy drought during the 2020–21 season after winning the league title and FA Cup.
Mohammed Kudus has been a top performer for West Ham United in his debut season at the London-based outfit since joining them from Danish Super Liga side FC Nordsjaelland.
He has notched up 13 goals and provided four assists in 38 appearances for the Hammers across all competitions.
