Nations FC head coach Frimpong Manso says his team is not in a position to challenge for the Ghana Premier League title this season.
According to the former Bibiani Goldstars gaffer, his main aim is to rebuild Nations FC and push for success in the MTN FA Cup.
The Abrankese-based side has struggled this season after a poor start that led to the exit of former coach Kasim Mingle. Manso, who took charge during the difficult period, believes a league title push is unrealistic for now.
Speaking to Akoma FM, the former Black Stars defender pointed to the gap between Nations FC and the top teams, as well as the quality of those clubs, as key reasons.
“At the moment, we are not talking about winning the league. Our priority is to make sure we put the team in a very good position,” he said.
“When you look at where we are on the table, the gap between us and the front runners, and also consider the quality of those teams, it becomes clear that it will be very difficult.”
Manso also revealed that the loss of important players has affected his plans for the season.
“We have also lost a number of key players, and for these reasons, this is not the time to talk about the league title. Perhaps we can focus on the FA Cup, but as far as the league is concerned, it will be very, very challenging,” he added.
With Nations FC through to the Round of 16 of the MTN FA Cup, the experienced tactical brainy says that the cup competition is now his top priority.
“I’m not thinking about the league title at the moment. My attention is firmly on the FA Cup. We are in the Round of 16, and that is where my focus lies, trying to win and move forward in the competition,” Manso noted.
Nations FC return to Ghana Premier League action this Friday, January 30, when they take on Medeama SC in their Matchday 21 clash at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex.
