His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Life Patron of Asante Kotoko Sporting Club, has called for the renewal of the defunct partnership between the club and MTN, Ghana's leading telecommunication company.

The partnership, which was initially formed between 2010 and 2018, was discontinued in 2020 due to a clause in the contract that allowed for suspension in the event of force majeure.

During a meeting with Stephen Blewett, the new CEO of MTN, at the Manhyia Palace on June 26, 2024, Otumfuo expressed his desire to revive the partnership, citing the benefits it brought to the club and the community. He specifically mentioned that MTN's sponsorship of Asante Kotoko was instrumental in the team's growth and success.

“MTN is Manhyia’s very good friend and the sponsorship I think you have to look at it…Golf and Kotoko. Look at those two for me, especially Kotoko and then the family can then grow.”

The MTN CEO assured His Majesty that the company is open to reviewing their sponsorship agreement with the club.

The company had previously committed GH¢1,050,000 to sponsor Asante Kotoko in cash, airtime and products, winning bonuses, special projects, and supporter mobilization between 2011 and 2018.

The breakdown of the club's board in 2023 has led to financial obligations being shouldered solely by Otumfuo.

The revival of the partnership could provide much-needed financial support to the club and help restore its former glory.
