The uncertainty of retirement from football can often be one of the biggest challenges as an ex-pro, as the natural continuance may be to move into coaching, but for John Mensah he has now embraced evangelism as his new found love.




According to the former captain of the Black Stars, It is a natural path for him to make a bumpy transitional period after retiring from the world's most loved sport seven years ago, bringing an end to his outstanding football career.



John Mensah, who was nicknamed the 'Rock of Gibraltar' in an interview with the media said: “I mostly spent time at the church. Having retired from the game, I think it is time to also spread the word of God to others. I’m now into evangelism."



Mensah who was physically strong, hard-working and tenacious centre-back played for Bologna, Swiss side Bellinzona, Chievo, Genoa, Modena, Cremonese, Rennes, Lyon, Sunderland, Asante Kotoko, FC Nitra before ending his career at then Swedish second-tier Eskilstuna.



Mensah was influential for the Black Stars, and in the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa - where the team reached quarter-finals despite stiff competition. He was also a key figure in the team that finished second in the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations (going ahead to play in the 2006, 2008 and 2012 tournaments).
