Vice Chairman of the GFA Security Committee, Nick Owusu has advocated for the idea of providing enough security in the Ghana Premier League as he feels that will attract both the public to follow the competition and also corporate institutions to come on board.
The talks of providing adequate security in our league are as a results of what transpired over the weekend at the Nana Amoah Koramansah II Park in GPL match-day 19 clash between Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko
The chaos was very bad to the extent that a staunch Kotoko supporter Francis Frimpong, known as 'Nana Pooley' lost his life after he was stabbed by an unknown person.
There has been series hullabaloo since the incident occured with almost all the clubs and football people calling for the end of hooliganism in Ghana football.
The latest to add his voice to the ongoing discussions is GFA Vice Chairman of the Security Committee Nick Owusu who threw more light on the importance of strengthening security at Ghana Premier League match centers describing safety as the backbone of revenue generation.
"We don't teach sports policing in Ghana so sometimes the officers are working with very limited training and knowledge."
"Safety is the backbone of revenue generation. More people will come to the stadium when they feel safe. Corporate Ghana will come on board too."
The two giants Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak have also released a joint-statement to the GFA this morning to that same effect calling for the provision of enough security at league centers.
The Ghana Football Association have at the moment postponed match-day 20 matches and the return date for the league hasn't been communicated yet.
