Accra Lions coach Ibrahim Tanko has launched a scathing critique against match officials following his team's recent encounter against Real Tamale United in matchday 23 of the Ghana Premier League, condemning their performance as "daylight robbery."

Accra Lions suffered a narrow defeat at the Golden City Park on Monday afternoon, succumbing to Mohammed Mankuyeli's decisive strike in the 32nd minute from the penalty spot.

In a post-match interview, Tanko expressed his frustration with the officiating during his team's 1-0 loss to the Pride of the North.

The coach vehemently criticized the referee's decisions, labeling them as orchestrating their defeat through "daylight robbery."

“This is a day light robbery. After 22 minutes, the referee had given four of our players’ yellow cards and awarded them a penalty, which wasn’t a penalty for us”

He further emphasized the detrimental impact of poor officiating on the integrity of the game, calling on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to address the issue promptly.

“I don’t think I have anything to say about the game but referees are those destroying our game. The GFA must sit up because what went on here wasn’t the best, even the match commissioner was not in line with what the referee did”

The defeat marked Accra Lions' first loss in four games in the Ghana Premier League. Prior to this fixture, they had secured three consecutive victories in the league.

With 30 points, Accra Lions currently occupy the 12th position in the Ghana Premier League standings after 22 matches. It's worth noting they have an outstanding fixture.
