The Ghana Football Association (GFA) Player Status Committee has ruled in favor of midfielder Shawkan Mohammed, resolving a contractual dispute with Accra Lions.
The committee found that the club's unilateral activation of his contract extension clause was invalid.
As a result of this ruling, Shawkan Mohammed is free to sign with any club. The 21-year-old has been seeking clarity on his contractual status, and this decision marks a pivotal moment in his career.
The issue began when Accra Lions activated a clause they claimed extended Shawkan's contract. However, the Player Status Committee determined that this activation did not comply with the agreed terms and conditions, nullifying the extension.
Shawkan Mohammed is anticipated to join Asante Kotoko, who have been keenly interested in him throughout the transfer window. Head coach Prosper Ogum has been an admirer of Shawkan, who is seen as a key addition to strengthen the squad for the upcoming season.
Shawkan, who has been a standout player in the Ghana Premier League, will soon link up with the Porcupine Warriors' camp in Cape Coast for their second phase of preseason training.
The midfielder made 30 appearances in the Ghana Premier League for Accra Lions before the dispute.
