Former Asante Kotoko head coach, Joseph Emmanuel Sarpong has warned his former club against their usual tradition of mass player exodus at the end of almost every season and strongly feels that isn't helping the club.

He made these comments on the back of the club's recent mass sacking of players since the end of the 2023/24 football season.

The Porcupine Warriors have jettisoned about 19 players so far and that include Enoch Morrison, Danlad Ibrahim, Kalo Ouattara, Rocky Dwamena, George Mfegue and others whiles players like Steven Mukwala and Richmond Lamptey also after expiration of their contracts.

Speaking in an interview with Mothers FM in Accra, the veteran gaffer was very brutal in his submission on the topic as he feels that policy isn't helping the Reds and has made it categorically clear to them that, they have to halt that or it could lead the club to relegation someday.

"It will affect the team. They’ve been sacking players every season. Where is the stability? Ogum sacked eleven players when he came and brought another eleven but they struggled. We have to keep some old players. We know how players are. We don’t go out and describe them as politicians when they are wrong. It is how you manage the team," he told Mothers FM.

“For example, Amankona was bought from Chelsea to Kotoko because of his scoring prowess but he returned to Berekum to win the golden boot. It means there is something basically wrong with. They will go to relegation if they don’t take care,” he added.

The 'Kum Apem' lads are also on the lookouts for new players and are working tirelessly to secure all their targets with players like Prince Adu Kwabena, Emmanuel Antwi and two other Sudanese internationals, all reported to have joined and will arrive in Kumasi very soon.

Asante Kotoko are currently in camp preparing for the Democracy Cup game against bitter rivals Hearts of Oak on July 17.
