Ghana will host the 2027 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, 28 years after last organising the competition.
The news was announced by Kurt Okraku, president of the Ghana Football Association, who said he was proud that the country had been selected again to host the continental youth tournament.
The decision brings back memories of the 1999 African U-20 Championship, when Ghana won the trophy at home and built a strong name as a country that develops football talent in Africa.
Hosting the tournament will test Ghana’s stadiums and organisation, but it also gives young local players a good chance to play against some of the best teams in Africa.
By welcoming the top under-20 teams, Ghana hopes not only to organise a successful competition but also to perform well on the pitch and try to win the trophy in front of home fans.
The tournament is also expected to show Ghana’s ability to host big sporting events and increase excitement among supporters who want to see the country become a centre for youth football in Africa once again.
