After unsuccessful trial periods, the Asante Kotoko technical team has made the decision to release three players, sending them back to their respective clubs.
The Porcupines initiated their pre-season training earlier this month in Beposo, located in the Ashanti Region. Among the players were two individuals undergoing training with hopes of securing a spot on the team's roster.
However, as per reports from various media outlets, the technical handlers of the club, led by Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, found that three players - namely Mohammed Abdul Rahman from Nsoatreman FC, Uche, a Cameroonian striker, and South African striker Papila - did not manage to make a positive impression during their time with the team. Consequently, they have been instructed to return to their respective clubs.
This decision came after the trio's performance was evaluated following Asante Kotoko's pre-season game against Kumasi Cornerstone FC.
On a more positive note, another player who was part of Asante Kotoko's training, Baba Yahaya, has secured a deal with the club. Impressively standing out to the technical handlers, Yahaya has reportedly inked a three-year contract with Asante Kotoko in preparation for the 2023/24 league season.
This skillful midfielder joins Asante Kotoko on a free transfer, having concluded his contract with King Faisal Football Club following the conclusion of the 2022/23 league season.
Yahaya's addition bolsters the ranks of the Asante Kotoko squad, alongside other recent signings such as Yahaya Dawuni, Nanabayin Amoah, Andrews Ntim Manu, Samuel Asamoah, Yussif Nurudeen Mohammed, Henry Ansu, and Kalo Quattara.
The Porcupines are also reportedly on track to sign WAFA SC midfielder Michael Kyei Dwamena before the transfer window closes on Friday, September 1, 2023.
