Aduana Stars' Communications Director, Evans Oppong, has expressed disappointment following his team’s 2-0 loss to Asante Kotoko in their Ghana Premier League match on Sunday at the Nana Agyemang Park in Dormaa.
The defeat, which marked matchday 12 of the league, came through two well-taken goals by the Porcupine Warriors. Defender Patrick Asiedu broke the deadlock with a stunning free-kick, while Albert Amoah sealed the win with a composed strike in the second half.
Speaking in a post-match interview with Kessben FM, Oppong admitted Kotoko’s superiority on the day and offered his congratulations, though with a heavy heart. “I will congratulate Kotoko for this victory, but honestly, I am not happy. Kotoko is one of our biggest rivals in football, and I believe they were better than us and deserve the win,” he stated.
He went on to lament the team's underwhelming performance and the disappointment it has brought to the club's loyal fanbase. “We’ve let the people of Dormaa down. It is an unfortunate result because that is not the result we expected,” Oppong added.
The loss extended Aduana Stars’ dismal run in the ongoing season, a streak that has cost head coach Yaw Acheampong his job. The club announced shortly after the match that they had parted ways with Acheampong by mutual consent, citing the team's poor form as the primary reason for the decision.
Under Acheampong's tenure, Aduana Stars struggled for consistency, registering just two wins, six draws, and four losses in their 12 matches this season. These results have left the two-time league champions in 13th position on the league table with only 12 points—far below the expectations of fans and management.
The club now faces the challenge of rebuilding as they search for a new head coach to reignite their campaign. Meanwhile, Oppong’s remarks reflect the frustration of a team and community yearning for better results. For now, Aduana Stars will need to regroup and rediscover their form to avoid further setbacks in the league.
