Ghana captain Jordan Ayew has expressed his delight with the performance of the Black Stars' young players following their convincing 4-0 victory over Trinidad and Tobago in the Unity Cup.
Head coach Otto Addo made several changes to the starting lineup, giving opportunities to a number of emerging talents, including Mohammed Fuseini, Lawrence Agyekum, and Christopher Bonsu Baah. The young squad rose to the occasion, delivering a confident performance at the Gtech Community Stadium in London to secure third place in the tournament.
Ayew, who led by example by opening the scoring, also provided two assists on the night. The match saw debut goals for Mohammed Fuseini, Nations FC captain Razak Simpson, and Lawrence Agyekum, highlighting the impact of the new faces in the squad.
Reflecting on the game, Ayew was full of praise for the team’s younger players:
“We approached the game really well. We made the game look simple, but it wasn’t simple. The players did well—the young ones really did well. Some of them really took their opportunities and I’m happy for them. They just need to keep pushing, keep believing in themselves, and keep putting in performances like this,” he said.
The Black Stars will regroup in September when they resume their campaign in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
