At the 2023 Extraordinary General Assembly where the governorship of the Madrid body meet to deliberate on the way forward of the club, there was a unanimous verdict made by 1000 representatives at the meeting. Based on the article of association, the representatives have the right to name any asset belonging to the club.
The decision agreed upon was that the Real Madrid City Sports Complex which host the activities of both Real Madrid football and basketball team including training facilities will be named after the current and ruling president.
About The President
Florentino Pérez Rodriguez is a Spanish businessman, civil engineer, former politician and now president of Madrid. He is running the affairs of the Spanish sports team in his second term. He was born on March 8, 1947.
Florentino Pérez was elected as the president of Madrid when he promised to sign a Barcelona player to Real Madrid. His first reign ended when he resigned in 2006 as he said "having analyzed the situation, I considered that this is the time to step down. I presented my resignation this afternoon because I believe this will change for the best".
He was replaced by Ramon Calderon in 2006 who was also replaced in 2009 by Vicente Boluda.
Why He Deserves It
He came for the presidency in 2009 and has been the one at the helm until date. Combining both his first and second term, Florentino Pérez has 58 major trophies for both Real Madrid football and basketball team. The trophies are 6 UEFA Champions League trophies, 6 FIFA Club World Cup, 5 European Super Cup, 6 La liga titles, 3 Copa del Rey, 6 Spanish Super Cup, 3 basketball European Cup, 7 basketball league titles, 6 basketball Cops del Rey and 9 basketball Super Cup.
Florentino Pérez agreed that he was surprised to be recognized this way but he is delighted.
It has been the pattern of Madrid to name their important asset after a well served president. The Real Madrid stadium is named after well served president. Santiago Bernabeu was a successful president at Madrid with most trophies as he was at the helm for 34 years 264 days.
There is no big surprise if Real Madrid wants to imitate it again and name their City Sports Complex after another successful president.
