Bodø/Glimt extended their remarkable UEFA Champions League run with a commanding 3-0 victory over Sporting CP in the first leg of their last-16 clash at Aspmyra Stadion.
The Norwegian side, making their UCL last-16 debut after eliminating last season’s finalists Inter Milan, opened the scoring from the penalty spot when Sondre Brunstad Fet converted a foul on him in the 32nd minute. Ole Didrik Blomberg doubled the lead before half-time with a precise finish.
Sporting CP threatened early in the second half but were unable to break down Glimt’s defence. The Norwegian side put the tie beyond doubt when Kasper Høgh tapped home Jens Petter Hauge’s cross to make it 3-0.
The result leaves Bodø/Glimt on the verge of becoming only the second Norwegian club to reach the Champions League quarter-finals since Rosenborg BK in 1996/97, while Sporting’s hopes of a first European Cup quarter-final in 43 years are in serious jeopardy.
